Only1invillage visits the Qantas Business Class Lounge Sydney International mid afternoon. Most importantly, it’s not too busy, not too quiet. Firstly, upon entry you will notice that the lounge is long and narrow with modern decor. Secondly, a central aisle dominates which houses the wine and barista bar. Thirdly, drinks of an alcoholic and soft variety with cafe style snacks in large glass containers can be seen. Finally, you breathe a sigh of business class lounge relief.

There are various seating options as in all business class lounges. Armchairs, bar stools, chairs around tables. However there are no sofas or couches. All seats are individual.

Due to having skipped breakfast , Only1invillage is feeling ravenous, so we decide to attack the food offerings. A few hot dishes and we mean a few are on offer. In addition, the accompanying sides, salads and dessert are a bit sad looking. Similarly the cheese board does nothing to excite the taste buds. However, compared to British Airways business class lounge T5 at London Heathrow, this is posh!
The hot food choices are very limited. There are 3 choices, one of which is pasta.

The drinks selection, however, is much better. There is a wide variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Best of all is coffee made to order including turmeric lattes! Having beer taps is a cool novelty. Unfortunately the wines on offer where of an average standard they where on average $20 bottles and a bit disappointing for a business class lounge.

Not intending to take a shower, just a few photos! Probably not the most luxurious looking. Even the attendant said they were not that nice as she asked why I was taking photos. Maybe should not have bothered, but, we know you will want to see the photos!

First of all, there is lots of space, but seating can be hard to find if busy. Another good feature is that the lounge is bright and light with big windows on one side. Food is better presented than British Airways business class lounge at T5 in London. Likewise, it tastes a little better too. However, the presentation, variety and quality doesn’t beat the Emirates business class lounge in either Melbourne or Dubai. Where is the smoked salmon? That’s a minimum expectation in our view for a business class lounge. Showers are always a welcome feature at a business class lounge, even if they’re not as good as in an Emirates lounge.

Staff are slow to clear tables which seems unprofessional. Also the wine offered at the Qantas business class lounge at Sydney International was in the 80 points range. In comparison, the Emirates lounge has wines that score in the 90s in the James Halliday wine guide. Lastly, there is a major lack of power points for charging devices. All said and done, ultimately better than sitting with the hoi polloi!
